It is with great regret and frustration that Granton Giants dodgeball club has to announce its withdrawal from the Adult Scottish Dodgeball league. In recent months the team has been struck with a number of injuries to key players and unfortunately has just not had the squad depth to cover these. This is doubling frustrating as we have two thriving junior sections who have no league to play in and not enough adults to play in the adult league.
The team has been working hard to reach and recruit new players and has had some degree of success. Though not enough to meet the minimum requirements needed over all league dates. We further hope moving to our new, larger and more central, venue will aid recruitment and retention.
We extend apologies to the teams who may be without fixtures due to our withdrawal. These are largely due to circumstances beyond the clubs control . Though arguably we were over enthusiastic in our readiness to compete this year. We thank those teams who have extended the offer to allow us to play friendly fixtures on Scottish league dates rather than have other teams lose out on game time. We hope to be able to encourage our members to seize this opportunity to play against and with more experienced players as part of their ongoing development. Particularly as we remain liable for the full league costs. At the end of the day any opportunity we can offer our players to play dodgeball is welcomed.
It is not over exaggeration to say that no one is more "gutted" over this than we are as a club. But while this is a brutal blow to the adult section in it's inaugural season the club does already have a solid foundation in the under eleven and under thirteen age categories which will see the club return stronger in the future.
This has also spurred the club on to pursuing the next phase of its development plan which will hopefully involve the establishment of student and recreational dodgeball in Edinburgh.
So while the GIANTS are conspicuous by their absence this year we hope that , given a little more time to grow, they will stand tall on the national stage next year or in the very near future.
